Script writing Example for MAIN MOTION WITH PRIMARY AMENDMENT TO INSERT

Legend/Note: The statements inside the bracket [Statement] are instruction/guidance/hint/information for the Chair only and should not be read/announced to the audience.

Is there any New Business?

(a) State the question on the main motion:

It is moved and seconded "That a parliamentary procedure training program be established." Are you ready for the question?

(b) Debate on the main motion

Madam President!

Sister Joyce.

I move to amend by inserting ", free to Sorority members," after "training program". [Sits]

Second!

(c) State the question on the amendment:

It is moved and seconded to amend by inserting ", free to Sorority members," after "training program". If the amendment is adopted, the main motion will read, "That a parliamentary procedure training program, free to Sorority members, be established." The question is on inserting ", free to Sorority members," after "training program". Are you ready for the question?

(d) Debate on the amendment – not graded

(e) Put the question on the amendment:

Are you ready for the question? [Pausing for response.]

The question is on inserting ", free to Sorority members," after "training program". If the amendment is adopted, the main motion will read, "That a parliamentary procedure training program, free to Sorority members, be established."

Those in favor of inserting ", free to Sorority members," after "training program", say aye. [Pausing for response.]

Those opposed, say no. [Pausing for response.]

(f) Announce results:

The [ayes/noes] have it and the amendment is [adopted/lost].

(g) Announce the business that follows

<If ayes have it> The question is now on the main motion as amended,

<If noes have it> The question is now on the main motion,  <Assume noes have it>

[Accurately gives main motion as it stands after vote on amendment]

The question is on the adoption of the motion "That a parliamentary procedure training program be established."

Those in favor of the motion, say "aye." [Pausing for response.] Those opposed, say "no." [Pausing for response.]

The ayes have it and the motion is adopted. A parliamentary procedure training program will be established.
